Theatrical

Ten musical theater productions are performed on the campus of King’s Ridge Christian School each year. Beginning in Lower School, every student has their moment(s) on stage. Students learn to develop their imagination and creativity through performances. A major goal in Lower School is to help students learn to appreciate theatre as an art form.

Middle School has two major theatrical productions on the main stage in the spring. Middle School has competed in the Georgia Theater Conference to receive superior ratings. They play to over 1,500 audience members and are recognized for their excellence in production, acting, singing, and dancing. Additionally, 90% of the rehearsal time is accomplished during class time, allowing students to pursue other areas of interest or further their training after-school in acting, dance, and/or singing on campus through the Fine Arts Academy.

Musical Theater within the High School at King’s Ridge Christian School has gained state recognition and awards. With over 5 Shuler nominations in 3 years to include Best Overall Production, Best Performance by a Leading Actress, Best Performance by a Supporting Actress, Best Direction, Best Lighting Design, and an additional 5 Honorable Mentions in Musical Direction, Best Performance by a Leading Actress, Best Performance by a Supporting Actor, Lighting Design and Set Design, KRCS is known throughout the state. In addition, musical theater students have the opportunity to compete in Individual Evaluations at the Georgia Thespian Conference each February, where KRCS features a production every two years. Other competitions are the GHSA One-Act Play each October, where KRCS holds the 2017 Region Championship title.

Under the stage direction of Kathy Winchell, the musical direction of Jenny Piacente, choreography by Annie Dietz, and scenic design by Patty Zeitz, King’s Ridge Christian School rivals the largest of programs with excellence in content, execution, and entertainment.

Dance

The core of the Dance program formed in 2017 is the intensive study of technique and foundational classes in ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop. Conditioning is a crucial component of development as a dancer and artist. Health along with nutrition are included in the curriculum.

The department has performance opportunities depending on age and level of expertise. These include Christmas at the Ridge, Musical Theatre Productions, Alpharetta Christmas Tree Lighting, and Spring Recital. In addition, dance Teams, the spirit squad for basketball, and making appearances during football season and pep rallies are co-curricular opportunities.

The Fine Arts Academy offers after-school technique classes in ballet, jazz, and musical theatre for Pre-K - 12th grade students. The Academy dance program does not have a studio competition schedule or costume fees. High School Dance course offerings include Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-Hop, Conditioning, and Musical Theater.

Instrumental

The King’s Ridge Christian School Instrumental music program is essential for the student's experience beginning in Pre-K. The Lower School has weekly general music classes that lay the foundation for musicianship and artistic expression.

Beginning in 5th grade, Middle School students can explore and discover their interests through two studio labs. One features 14 pianos and the second 20 guitars. They gain skills in the instrument of choice; they build their music theory skills and sight-reading. Class recitals and showcases are presented at the culmination of each quarter.

High School students continue to build their skills as musicians through piano lab offered during the curricular day with lessons and music theory. AP Music Theory is offered based on recommendation. In addition, juries are held at the end of each semester for students to perform for a panel of the Music Faculty. Juries are meant to replicate college auditions.

Co-curricular programs are through Worship Arts with the Chapel Worship Band that meets weekly. This group is led by Alex Young and leads in over 60 chapels during the school year. The band features vocals, keyboard, piano, guitar, Cajon, and drums. Additionally, planning Centered is a valuable tool used by professionals in planning and executing programs.

Vocal Arts

The Lower School program includes a talented group of 3rd and 4th grade students who rehearse once a week after school. They perform at various events throughout the school year, including Christmas at the Ridge. In addition, music is offered to each Lower School grade once a week and a grade-level musical performance.

The Middle School program, under the direction of Jenny Piacente (founder and conductor of the Greater Atlanta Girls' Choir), includes a 5th/6th grade chorus and a 7th/8th grade chorus. Students continue to build on the foundational skills taught in general music and develop theory, sight-reading, and ear training skills that will carry them through high school and beyond. Performances include a fall concert, Christmas at the Ridge, and spring concert. Students are eligible to audition for GMEA All-State Chorus. In addition, all middle school students have the opportunity to audition for Middle School Musicals.

In High School, the King’s Ridge Voices continue to improve their performance and vocal techniques through genres of music to expand their exposure and knowledge. Music theory continues to be the program's foundation, with AP Music Theory offered by recommendation. Students will work on note reading skills, intonation, rhythm, articulation, dynamics, and balance. Performances include Christmas at the Ridge, Large Group Performance Evaluation, Black & White Gala, and Commencement. All high school students have the opportunity to audition for the High School musical.
